WillsOdyssey: YouTuber Cover Week - 29th of May
Hey! So I posted a video about a YouTube music project I’m doing next week to see if anyone else would be interested in joining in, but I missed out a few things, so here they are!
In order to allow the cover videos to be shared around easily and be more widely viewed (this will hopefully be an…
I can confirm that not only will I be taking part in this project, but the first video will see the long-awaited return of THE A-Z OF COVERS! :D

My K.K. Slider cover appeared on the website for Nintendo Gamer, one of the UK’s leading gaming magazines! I’m still not quite sure how it happened… :P
Q:I can recognise some of the names on your opening scroll. Alan is Alan Lastufka, and Bill is Dr. Noise. (Or at least I think that's who they are.) Is there a significance for each name?
I have waited FOREVER for someone to ask this question! And yet I don’t actually have a completely accurate answer…
Some, yes. Others were just put in their randomly by Karen Kavett (who designed it for me because she is lovely). As far as I remember it:
- Alan = Alan Lastufka
- Bill = Dr Noise
- Chris = my best friend at high school (inspired this song)
- Dave = another friend from high school
- Floyd = random from Karen (unless I was putting in a Pink Floyd reference?)
- Hank = guess who
- Jake = another school friend
- Kevin = random from Karen
- Liam = Liam Dryden
- Mark = school friend
- Paul = me!
Hey! A new video! And it’s a Beatles cover!!
Stopped (a poem)
When I entered this house for the
First time
I brought a lodger. We never talked
or shared, save for the one study
I entrusted to him. And as I worked
and played, he studied
and reported.
But
This afternoon,
he stopped. I took
A few hours
to notice and when I glanced up
his frozen face lied to me. If I had just taken
A second
to glance at my watch I could have seen through his betrayal.
But instead I sat there for
A moment
confused by his findings,
taking in his rigid features.
“You should not stop,” said I.
“Morning,
Noon,
Night.
You must work throughout
The day!”
In my disgust, I removed him from his place.
I looked down at his hands,
still and motionless. And the
Second,
twitching with the final spasms of life.
I smiled.
“In all the
Years
we have shared this roof, you have asked
nothing of me. You should not deceive me for something so
minute.”
I carried him to the kitchen and found
a meal to his liking. Within
Minutes
his strength returned, his arms regaining
their familiar sporadic energy. He offered
no words of thanks, save his usual verbal
Tic,
as I brought him back to our room and
he returned to his studies of time.
A new video! It’s been a while in coming, hasn’t it?
Here’s my cover of Fleet Foxes’ “Meadowlarks.” Enjoy!! :)
Q:Hey. I came across you via Coverville and I am officially and stalkerishly addicted to your cover of I'm Going To Go Back There Someday. Your voice is lovely to listen to, thank you for sharing it. Keep it up, looking forward to hearing more.
Thank you very much! :)
Here’s a new video, in which I cover “All The Lights On” by the wonderful LizzieRadio. The original song can be found here, and you should DEFINITELY subscribe to Lizzie, as she is an amazing songwriter, as you can hopefully tell from this video ;)
Songs I would like to cover in the near future
(alternative title: “Lists Paul makes when he is feeling like he should be productive as a musician but is actually failing to be so”)
In no particular order:
- “La Vie En Rose” (Louis Armstrong)
- “My Body Is A Cage” (Arcade Fire)
- “Fishing For A Dream” (Turin Brakes)
- “Xtonic” (Will Dixon - this one is actually being saved for the X entry in The A-Z of Covers)
- “Mr Bassman” (The Muppets)
- “House of 1982, Built Like A Ship” (Driftless Pony Club - which I’ve been playing at gatherings since last Spring but have yet to put on YouTube)
- “Cross My Heart” (Billy Stewart)
- “All The Lights On” (LizzieRadio)
- “Airbag” (Radiohead)
- “Family Tree” (TV On The Radio… this pattern was unintentional)
It is my intention to cover as many of these as possible in 2012. Naturally, as the year progresses I will find more songs that I desperately want to cover that will push others out of the running, so it’s unlikely that all will make it to your computer screen, but we shall see!
